Chromebook Tip: Where is caps lock on a Chromebook?

27 February 2014 by Karl Rivers 7 Comments

Google’s Apple inspired Chromebook keyboard is great for typing, but there’s one icon which the search company saw fit to replace — caps lock. But worry not, wipe your tears away, there is a solution.

A keyboard standard for decades, the caps lock key on the Chromebook’s keyboard has been eschewed for a much more relevant search key. But caps lock aficionados need not worry, Google has only hidden the capitalising toggle.

To enable or disable caps lock on your Chromebook press: alt + search.

You can also set the search key function permanently to function as caps lock, ctrl, alt, escape, or even disable it all together. To change the function visit your Chromebook’s settings page (chrome://settings) and click Keyboard Settings.

While you can change the function of the caps lock key, the search icon is there to stay.

you have no idea how badly i needed this. I was writing a story and I just couldn’t get my fingers into the habit of hitting the shift key to make a capital, and of course instead id hit the search button. Swear it drove me nuts! Thanks for making my life a little less stressful~!
