iOS 7’s new AirDrop feature allows users to quickly transfer files between iPads, but for some reason Apple has decided not to let AirDrop transfers work between Mac and iPad.
The same AirDrop feature, which has been available on Mac for a number of months, is now available for iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touch running iOS7. Despite having the same name, however, AirDropping files between Mac and iOS doesn’t work.
There doesn’t appear to be any technical reason that file transfers should not be possible between the two operating systems, and hopefully this is something Apple will resolve in a future update, but it does provide for a confusing and inconsistent user experience.
