Considering buying iPads for your school? Hold off for a few days! Apple will hold a press conference next Tuesday, 22nd October to announce its latest iPad offerings.
The fifth generation iPad is widely expected to be announced along with an updated iPad Mini. The iPad 5 is likely to be an incremental update to the current generation. The device is expected to feature a redesigned case, similar to that of the iPad Mini, and run Apple’s new 64-bit A7 processor. The iPad Mini is expected to get a much needed screen update in the form of a retina display. It’s also likely that both devices will come equipped with Apple’s new Touch ID fingerprint sensor only currently built in to the iPhone 5s.
iPad updates tend to be scheduled towards the end of the year, which complicates purchasing decisions for many schools who want get devices into student hands around the beginning of September. In my case we’ve just purchased fifteen iPads aware that they are likely to be “superseded” in the coming weeks.
We’ll have all the news from Apple’s press conference with an education angle next week.
