You can now buy iPad apps and iBooks with a purchase order through Apple’s new VPP Credit program.
Apple are on a roll this week. Following on from the announcements of improved iPad management, and Apple ID for Students, today Apple has announced that schools will soon be able to buy iPad apps and iBooks with a purchase order.
A majority of schools still require the use of purchase orders to make purchases. As a result many schools found buying iPad apps through Apple’s Volume Purchase Program extremely difficult, often resorting to buying iTunes gift cards to buy content.
The new change will allow school schools to buy “VPP Credit” through either an Apple purchasing account or through an Apple Authorised Reseller which will then be applied to their account.
This is yet another acknowledgement that Apple finally understands the difficulties managing iPads in schools.
Hi Carl,
Thank you for the update. How can I signup for Apple VPP credit program?
Hi Mazhar,
I believe you have to contact your Apple reseller.
Karl
Hi Karl,
How does this work with supervised iPads? I purchased a book but unfortunately I could not deploy this to the end user as they dont have an apple id on their devices. We are using the school / institutional approach to manage these devices.
have you got any ideas on this?
Thanks.
Mubs
Hi Mubs,
Good to hear from you again.
I believe, although I haven’t been able to test it myself yet, that you can spend VPP credit in the Apple VPP store to generate app and ibook codes for Apple Configurator.
Does this help?
Karl
Thanks Karl I might try a test one
