In today’s mailbag we look at a problem using PAC files to supply Apple TV with proxy server settings.
My name is M and I’m a big fan of your work at ClassThink.
I need to set up an automatic proxy setting linking to a pac file (https://example.com/default.p
I follow your guide but something goes wrong all the profiles I install, when checked on the apple tv general setting screen, they appear but they all say something like “payload_unknown_description_s
I connect my apple tv with ethernet cable so I set that url (that links to the .pac file) under the “global http proxy” option. It says that this option is only for supervisioned devices but, following your guide, i set supervision to off (since Apple TV, as I understand, can’t be supervisioned). Is this the problem? I mean, it doesn’t work because of the global http proxy is only for supervisioned device? …but if so, how to configure a proxy .pac for ethernet connection of my apple tv.
Sorry for being so long and boring, but it’s very important for me and my (deaf) students.
Thanks a lot in advance for all the help you can give me.
I found no other on the web with your knowledge.
As you said, Apple TVs cannot be supervised and the global http proxy settings can only be applied to supervised devices. Having the global proxy option set may cause a problem when you apply the profile to your Apple TV.
This looks to me like a problem with the configuration profile you have created being incompatible with Apple TV. I recommend starting again with a blank profile and adding the settings back one by one. This will tell you exactly which setting is causing the issue.
Let me know how you get on.
