If you’ve used Chrome OS you’ll be familiar with the Chrome App Launcher. Now this useful widget is available for Windows.
Similar to the post-Windows 8 Start Menu, Chrome App Launcher is a menu accessible from the Windows task bar that gives you immediate access to any Chrome extensions or Google Apps you may have installed.
Like the Chrome browser, if you’re using multiple devices, the shortcuts in the Chrome App Launcher will synchronise across your machines.
The App Launcher is available now for Windows, and will be released for Mac OS X at a later date.
It will be interesting to see how the Chrome App Launcher integrates with domain desktops as it has the potential to remove much of the friction users find when accessing Google Apps. I can also see it being a catalyst to encourage more users to try Google Apps in schools where there is hesitancy about using browser-based software.
Chrome App Launcher also has the potential to further blur the lines between school and home desktops.
I’ll be testing Chrome App Launcher over the next week on PCs joined to a domain and will post the results.
